Japanese Workbooks
I wanted to share some good Japanese workbooks that’s helped me for anyone wanting to learn Japanese.
1. Oxford Beginner’s Japanese Dictionary
This dictionary is for basic hiragana words, which makes it helpful for any beginner starting off at the basics. No confusing Kanji,
2. Japanese for Busy People Kana Workbook: Revised 3rd Edition
Learning Kana (hiragana and katakana) through repetition; It shows you how to draw the strokes and gives you boxes to try them out. It’s a good first step in to remembering kana at your own pace. Also comes with a CD.
It’s all in kana so no English to help you out which works well if you’re one to depend on English you explain everything for you. Pair this with the beginners dictionary and you will learn Japanese hiragana and grammar very fast.
Truthfully i haven’t really started this one but the first page I checked it explained how か “ka” at the end of a sentence usually indicates its a question and that’s more than I learnt from any other grammar book.
> a proper review [link]
A good book teaching you Kanji with pictures of what the Kanji looks like and repetition. It’s a good workbook but you need to good grasp of your kana to fully use this book as some of the reading questions has a lot of it sprinkled in.
6. Read and Write Japanese Scripts
Same as 5. this book teaches you through pictures but no kana or repetition necessary. this book is more of a school workbook where they ask to match the symbols to the meaning and guess the kanji from the description. It also explains how 2 kanji symbols put together makes a new meaning and so on. A good intro to kanji.
7. Yotsubato! Vol. 1 (in Japanese)
A popular manga for kids, this is actually really good for learning Japanese as Yotsubato speaks all in hiragana while the adults speak in kanji. As Yotsubato is still a little girl she is learning about the world which is a good way for you to also learn the names of things. plus it’s cute!
❤︎ Squared Notebook
If you’re going to be writing any of this down I recommend Squared Notebooks. Because no one told me this and I’m so pissed but use the squares to learn how to write kanji and kana in the same size and together, it’s a life saver.
If anyone has any other Japanese book suggestions please share and good luck in your Japanese learning.

I LITERALLY JUST-
HOLY SHIT HIS PRONUNCIATION IS GOOD
AND HIM TELLING THE GUY TO CONFESS LOUDER /SHRIEK
The best part is this is an entire series of ads where he is an alien robot who comes to Japan/Earth. He is learning about the culture and lifestyle while he is there. This is just a small collection of ads he did with this character. Every time he goes to Japan he usually shoots an ad. He has confessed in interviews he loves Japan and loves doing ads for them cause they let him do what he wants. Plus they are fun. Lastly he isnt the only actor with views like this. Will Smith every visit goes on a game show where he has appeared multiple times. He adores it despite barely knowing any Japanese. It is hysterical and so much fun.
